Today, my guest is fellow FIRE enthusiast/podcaster/blogger, Captain FI!
He’s actually been on the podcast before but I had to take that episode down due to ASIC’s 2022 guidelines.
Cap came and stayed at the Firebug household after attending the Rask event in my hometown. It was a lot of fun meeting and greeting others from the FIRE community and it was extra special to do so in my own backyard.
This was very much an improv podcast and I didn’t have any set questions.

Great chat covering lots of interesting stuff (shoutout for Adelaide being a great city for FI and even ChatGPT got a mention).
I am still burned from my main financial advisor history but found a good fee-for-service one through PIFA (Profession of Independent Financial Advisors). You are right that you still have to educate yourself and take charge of exactly what you want the advisor to help you with. Once I did this though, the advisor gave me great and targeted advisory; well worth the money.
While we’re not quite FI (Captain FI’s estimates on monthly costs with kids is sounding closer to the mark), we do have enough to warrant *some* spending/loosen the screws a bit, and have a Guilt-Free account that gets topped up with the money we shouldn’t feel bad about spending. After years of extreme frugality it’s still hard to spend this money, but we are slowly getting better at it.
What happened to this episode? I was halfway through when it stopped playing, not appears to have disappeared from Spotify.

We experienced a technical glitch with Spotify. The cause is unclear, but the issue has been resolved and the episode is now available again.
